Famous Shots From movies

A famous shot that stuck with me for a long time now is the burning of the pilots plane from the movie Dunkirk, directed by Christopher Nolan in 2017. The shot is taken after hours of dogfighting, air battle between military aircrafts, and the pilot did his job protecting the stranded soldiers. He crash lands and burns his plane so it doesn't fall into enemy hands. The scene works by showing an exhausted pilot who is watching his aircraft burn. It is like a Viking sendoff and shows emotional value of the plane. To be honest the film shouldn't be rendered or shot different. Christopher Nolan shot this scene perfectly.

This shot resonates with me because this is one of the first British film my family and I watched together in a movie theater. At this time I was in high school and in my European History class we were in the middle of learning about World War 2 and Dunkirk being known as one of the worst military disasters in history and how ordinary citizens aided in the full evacuation of UK soldiers from Dunkirk. These acts of heroism is why this scene and shot resonates with many people.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed Dunkirk and think of it as Christopher Nolan's finest works. The color used in this movie, especially this scene, shows the bleak reality of war and this era. It also coincides with the climate of the region. The scene ends with Nazi soldiers apprehending the British soldier who aided in saving the lives of tens of thousands of soldiers by protecting the skies from enemy planes.
